Westoe Rugby Club already had cricket, rugby, tennis, and squash. What they had too much of was unused land — previously earning little as motorhome and caravan storage. When Padel Project UK came calling, General Manager Gail saw the opportunity clearly.
Quick fire Questions With General Manager Gail
What was the land used for previously and what made you say yes to padel?
Currently having two field sports, Cricket & Rugby and two racquet sports: Tennis & Squash the decision to add Padel was a fantastic opportunity to complement our offering at the ground.
What did the process actually feel like — planning, build, opening?
From planning, initial handover and build it was perfection. Everything was handled promptly, no day to day disruption during the build, I can highly recommend… he was amazing if I had any queries or concerns they were dealt with promptly.
Beyond the rent, what impact has the club had on the wider site?
Increased footfall during hours ordinarily exceptionally quiet. Increased interest in other sports and socials on offer.
What has surprised you — good or bad — since the club opened?
It’s an instant success, very little advertising but socials are key to get the message out quick. The offer of mix ins, coaching sessions and the opening hours have all added to the success.
If another club called you tomorrow asking whether to do this , what would you tell them?
Absolutely Yes!
Is there anything you would do differently?
From site inception and planning approval to an 8 week build to opening, Padel Project UK have got it right!
