Science on the Court: Padel Project UK x Worthing College
At Padel Project UK, we’ve always known that Padel is more than just a game, it’s a boost for both the body and the mind. Now, Worthing College are putting that theory to the test.
Worthing College and their Sport & Exercise Science foundation degree students are coming to the end of six-week research project, students have been trading the classroom for the courts to study the physical and social impacts of our favourite sport.
Why Padel?
As the fastest-growing sport in the UK, Padel offers a unique case study. Because it is accessible to all ages and fitness levels, it provides a wide field-base for researchers to observe how social sports contribute to an active lifestyle.
"The aim of this research project is to build on the current, but fairly limited, research on the effects of Padel on individuals, and build a strong collaboration with a local educational establishment." — Ryan Young, Club Manager
What’s Happening on the Courts?
Starting in April, students have been conducting weekly sessions that blend academic research with active play. These sessions aren't just for the degree candidates; they’ve also invited our regular venue players to get involved, making it a true community effort.
As the project draws to a close, the preliminary results from Worthing College Sport are already showing some interesting findings around:
Mood and Mental Well-being
Social Connectivity
Adherence
Looking to the Future
This partnership isn't just about data; it’s about people. We are particularly excited about encouraging more 16 to 25-year-olds to discover padel. By strengthening our ties with local educational institutions, we’re ensuring the next generation stays active, social, and healthy.
